what is AI? Applications of Artificial Intelligence
Today when I am traveling to some new place on a vacation, and Google shows me nearby places to visit. I wonder how does Google able to show me all this information without me even searching for them.
Can Google read my mind?
Do you remember the movie “Terminator” which shows Arnold Schwarzenegger as Terminator, a robot who travels in time to kill Sarah?
After seeing the movie I use to wonder “Is it possible?” But today I can say it might be possible.
And when I was searching for answers to all my questions, I read about an interesting concept called AI. I started to read more about it, and I thought many people like me might also have questions like mine. So I am writing this article to quench the thirst for knowledge of many such readers who have similar questions.
What is AI?
AI or Artificial Intelligence is a branch of science that deals with machines that perform tasks just like humans would do in that situation.
Programmers study the brain of humans. They learn how they think, logically apply their skill and take necessary action when a task is assigned to them. This knowledge is used to program machines to the way humans do. This is achieved through various algorithms that analyze all the data available with them. These programs learn from user experience, patterns, and so on.
Eg: Say if we are looking for a product on the Internet, and then we visit the Amazon website, it would recommend products based on our previous search on Google machines.
AI is such a vast field, that even today with so many AI-based applications in the market, we have just touched about 5% of totality.

Types of AI
Artificial intelligence can be classified in three types:
- Artificial limited intelligence
A learning algorithm is developed for a specific goal in narrow artificial intelligence (narrow AI), and any knowledge obtained from completing that task is not instantly applied to other tasks. Artificial limited intelligence, or ANI, is sometimes known as weak or constrained AI. Because ANI is goal oriented, designed to perform a specific task (such facial recognition, speech recognition/voice assistants, driving a car, or browsing the internet), and focused on that activity exclusively, it is very effective at attaining the goal.
- Artificial General Intelligence(AGI):
Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is the software equivalent of generalized human cognitive abilities that would allow an AGI system to solve a problem when faced with a difficult task.
AGI, also known as strong AI or deep AI, is the idea of a machine with general intelligence that can learn and use its intelligence to solve any problem. In any situation, AGI is capable of reasoning, comprehending, and behaving exactly as a human would.
- Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI):
A software-based system with cognitive capacities that are superior to those of humans in a multitude of categories and fields of study is referred to as artificial superintelligence (ASI).
Artificial superintelligence (ASI) is a term for hypothetical AI that is capable of more than only replicating or comprehending human intelligence and behavior). When computers are capable of outperforming human intelligence and become self-aware, ASI happens.
Uses of AI
The world’s many industries are changing their tendencies as a result of artificial intelligence (AI). With the help of technical advancements, a variety of applications of AI are changing our lives.
The entire world is becoming digitized as a result of the integration of AI technology with diverse applications and hardware. In this blog,
we’ll examine how artificial intelligence is used in a variety of fields, including robotics, medicine, the military, and many more. Several instances of artificial intelligence being applied in data processing are included in the list below:
Defense
One of the most important fields for AI’s contributions is defense. Attacks by hackers who want to acquire secret military or governmental data might compromise defense security systems. Advanced processors powered by AI are required in order to extract, modify, analyze, and gain insight from the 44 trillion gigabytes of data produced everyday by the healthcare industry.
Transport
The transportation sector has undergone a substantial upheaval as a result of artificial intelligence. Given the fierce competition in the transportation industry, it is essential to consider every factor that can have an impact on the various business divisions. Price, season, special days, and passenger volume are a few examples of these.
Marketing
Currently, the marketing industry is revolutionized by the application of AI. AI is used to increase profitability across a range of businesses, including e-commerce, e-learning, advertising, media, and entertainment. Consider conducting a product search on Amazon. Along with the product, it will also show you the best-selling things, related goods, similar goods in different forms, and a list of recommendations.

AI and ML are Closely Intertwined
AI research depends heavily on machine learning, and the two are interwoven. The practice of teaching computers to learn without explicit instruction is known as machine learning (ML). Machine learning algorithms can recognize patterns, predict future events, and offer suggestions.
An intelligent machine “uses AI to think like a human and perform tasks on its own,” according to Microsoft. It is through machine learning that a computer system gains intelligence.
With ML and other methods, AI models are constructed. After analyzing data patterns, data scientists build machine learning (ML) models by optimizing them. This procedure is repeated and improved upon until a model’s accuracy is sufficient to accomplish the desired goals.
ML programs can learn using supervised, semi-supervised, or unsupervised techniques.
Supervised learning: Under supervision, programs identify relationships between previously classified datasets.
Semi-supervised : learning requires programs to use contextual information to fill in knowledge gaps.
Unsupervised learning: Without contextual knowledge, programs must establish associations between datasets. The data handling instructions are unclear to them.
Specific models include human-in-the-loop (HITL) functionality, whereby humans collaborate with models to analyze their inputs and outputs and make necessary changes and adjustments. The models then take advantage of the input to keep improving.
Does Artificial Intelligence Restrict Human Use?
In industries where artificial intelligence is being used increasingly, humans could seem to be quickly surpassed. Still, humans are superior to AI when it comes to a wide range of complex tasks. At the moment, AI machines are unable to do tasks requiring creativity.
For example, an AI writer produced new screenplays for TV comedy episodes called “Friends,” but none were easy to read. While some writers use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to generate ideas for their poetry and fiction, AI cannot complete tasks for writers.
Moreover, despite tremendous advancements in natural language processing, AI is still not very good at comprehending the words it reads. Even though English is usually predictable enough for AI to engage in reliable conversation in specific contexts, irony, subtlety, or unexpected phrasing could confuse it. Similarly, AI is yet unable to exhibit critical thinking or empathy. Humans are still better at tasks requiring these skills than AI is.
Artificial intelligence has developed quickly and is already an essential part of our everyday lives. But that’s still a long way off—the day when AI takes care of everything and we can relax or pursue our passion for learning will never come. Artificial intelligence still has to progress in domains like language processing, creativity, problem-solving, and subtlety comprehension. Develop these traits to ensure you’ll still be employable if you’re worried that robots will replace you in your current position.
